Fabric painted with a brown bird motif repeated four times on two decorative ochre bands. Excellent state of preservation.Chancay fabrics reflect the knowledge of Peruvian weaving. They used llama wool, cotton and feathers and practiced embroidery, gauze, decorative painting and the making of dolls. Both birds and gods are among the most popular motifs used by the Chancay. This culture flourished between the 9th and 15th century A.D. in the central part of the Peruvian coast. From the 15th century they were dominated by the Incas. Chancay Valley is home to the largest cemeteries of Peru.
