Description :

A hollow fabricated mythical lion-dog standing on all four legs. The head tilted upwards, mouth open, collar to the neck with bell on the chest. Openwork wings to the shoulders and hips, clawed feet. The tail S-curved with supporting bar.

Known as Singha these statues stand at the entrance to Buddhist and Hindu temples in Nepal and are protectors against evil spirits. The left Singha is male, and the right, female. The widely opened mouth, sharp teeth, and their gorgonizing glare represents the power to repel evil.
