A large terracotta vase covered in a green glaze, obtained through lead elements tinted with copper monoxide. The pot-bellied vase is affixed to a pedestal. There are nicely proportioned neck flares at the top. The pot is decorated with three series of fine, horizontal parallel lines in relief. On each side of the vase, decorative rings. Characteristic traces of silvery limestone.
The Chinese were a very ingenious people who discovered many techniques to perfect the beauty of their pottery. In the case at hand, we have before us one of their inventions: the green lead glaze, obtained by mixing feldspars with copper monoxide. To obtain this colour, a well-conceived kiln was also necessary, one that could reach temperatures of 800 degrees, something that the West only managed to do much later.
