Large amulet in turquoise coloured frit, depicting the goddess Thoueris. She wears a three-part wig and has hanging breasts, a gravid belly and is walking with arms along the body. Very good state of preservation, despite the absence of the feet. A missing section in the arm, however, the piece remains perfectly legible. Amulets in ancient Egypt were part of the cult of the dead. Thoueris is the Greek version of the name of the goddess Ta-weret (the great), symbolizing the universal mother. She was represented as half woman, half hippopotamus with lion paws and a crocodile tail. This goddess was the protector of the home, children and particularly of birth.
