Sandstone pitcher with a potbelly and narrow and shrunken neck. Thick and opaque, brown and dark beige glaze composed of iron oxide. No visible restoration.
The history of Thailand, called Siam until 1939, begins with the founding of the independent realm of Sukhotai in 1238. This prosperous period of great growth would last for barely a century. At that time talented potters from China built the famous kilns of Sawankhalok. Known for their avant-garde technique, these ceramics were very sought after starting in the 14th century
