Dark brown ceramic typical of the era. Large ovoid vase, wheel-thrown, high flared neck and two handles placed on either side of the shoulder that served to hold threaded rope. The vase is covered in a lovely green and aubergine coloured glaze, rare for this period. The colour is achieved by firing iron oxides and copper. Various decorative nets mark the circumference of the vase and a frieze at the base of the neck depicts an aquatic design. A perfect state of preservation.
The Han period was a time of remarkable political stability following the imperial unification. It saw economic prosperity and significant technical and artistic advancements, most notably in the field of pottery.
