Red terracotta rython in the form of a type of mountain goat, an ibex. The cylindrical body is set firmly on four tubular legs with a decoration of four incised lines. The neck rises vertically ending in a goat’s head with long curved horns like an ibex. The eyes are added on and marked with circular incisions. The muzzle serves as a spout. It has a beard and decorative linear incisions. A small neck flares open on the back to fill the recipient with liquid and a semi-circular handle has been fixed between the two necks. The goat wears wave-shaped earrings and a necklace. Geometric incisions decorate its neck.Rythons were recipients reserved exclusively for ceremonial libations. The origin of this shape seems to belong to prehistoric times of Eurasia but it was the Greeks and the cultures of the Mediterranean basin who appropriated it in the 2nd millennium. Those from Iran are among the most refined and creative. The Amlash culture comes from Northern Iran.
