Amulet of turquoise glazed frit, representing the goddess Thoueris walking with her arms falling along the sides of her body. The objects created by sintering are distinguishable to earthenware due to their absence of glaze. The colour of frit is described as “Egyptian blue” and is composed of quartz and silicate of copper and calcium. Excellent state of preservation. The goddess Thoueris, which is the Greek name for Tarouet, is represented with a woman’s body, the head of a hippo, the paws of a lion and a crocodile tail. The amulet is used as a talisman for both the living and the dead and serves here as the protector of the home, childhood and particularly of maternity and birth.
