Elegant pair of oushebtis in blue and delicate frit with perfectly legible hieroglyphic inscription. One of the pieces has a more sustained colour than the other, although they originate from the same tomb. Static posture of Osiris, wearing nemes and beard.
The 26th Saïte Dynasty (664-525) named after the city Saïs in the Delta, which marks a “Renaissance” period of in ancient Egypt. The kingdom was prosperous and the saïte style is characterized by excellent technique and a perfect finish. This period is marked by a return to the origins, notably the study of their artistic and cultural past and the restoration of ancient monuments such as the Saqqara step pyramid. In 525 BC, Cambyses II, King of Persia conquered Egypt, marking the end of the dynasty.
The chaouabtis or “servants of the hereafter” are responsible for carrying out the work and chores of the deceased. They represent both the master and his servant. Apart from their stylistic uniformity, these figures are a veritable mine of information for beliefs and funerary rites.
