Wood carving in the round representing an Oushebti with polychrome-painted details. Depicted with a three piece wig, a necklace with multiple rows called an ‘ousbek’, a bag of seeds, a djed pillar. A line of text written in demotic is visible on the lower part of the body. The statue is mounted onto a base. Very fine condition.The ushabtis are the servants of the deceased in the afterlife. They were dedicated to executing menial tasks and chores. Tombs can be found with up to 365 ushabtis, one for every day of the year. Demotic is an ancient style of writing, which derived from hieroglyphics.
